I have to say that I don't have as much time for hobbies as I used to. I work full time now and only have a couple hours at home on the weekdays and then the weekends. I most enjoy hanging out at home for the most part. And while I don't have a lot of hobbies anymore, there are a couple that are defintely worth mentioning, both from my past an my present.

Xena Warrior Princess

Yes, this is a TV show. So why isn't it under television, you ask? Well, it's because I consider this a hobby unto itself since I'm so invested in it in many ways. It's more than just a TV show for me so it deserves its own section. It may sound strange, but yeah, I enjoy it that much.

I became a fan in 1998--I can't believe it has been 10 years (right now as I type this) since I started watching the show! The show just captured me so much and there are so many interesting things to do in this fandom, from writing fanfic, to creating graphics like wallpapers, avatars and websites, to watching music videos, hanging out on forums, discussing the complex and interesting aspects of the show and, generally, just making wonderful online friends. The Xenaverse as we like to call it is definitely one of the best places to be, and has the nicest group of people that I have ever met. It's wonderful to be around people who share the passion for the show the way I do!

I have created a page specifically dedicated to my passion for Xena: Chakram Central

I don't watch that much television anymore. I've always been an avid watcher of the Disney Channel, though it's mostly just for entertainment related to boredom then actually any kind of passion of mine. I grew up watching it and I always have. There aren't really any shows that are on right now that I enjoy. I'm not into cop or crime or law shows. I really don't like reality shows. I will watch Food Network also for a way to relieve boredom and the Travel Channel is always fun. Oh, and I like watching the History Channel sometimes, too, especially if there are programs that are about ancient history and the like.

Other than that, I don't watch much television, not like I used to, anyway. I'm more into being online and doing things on the computer than I am watching tv. But there are some shows that have really captured me, some are ones that I have fond memories of when I was little or ones that I have a huge passion for right now.

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I've been an on and off fan of Buffy for several years now. When I say "on and off" I mean just that: my interest in the show comes in waves. It's nothing to do with the show, and I like it well enough (I have all of the seasons on DVD) but it has never captured me as much as Xena has, has never kept as long for me as Xena. While my interest in Xena is always there, my Buffy interest is one that can be more sometimes and less other times.

Still, I enjoy the show. Didn't start watching it until 2003, I believe (or maybe it was 2002; I don't remember). I was immediately drawn to the relationship between Buffy and Spike, and became a huge Spike fan because of it. I am currently working on a website for the Buffy/Spike relationship, nothing huge but I made screencaps of all the Buffy/Spike "Spuffy" episodes and so I want to showcase them. There will be a link here when I finally get it up.

  • Angel

I became a fan of Angel around the same time, or a little later, that I became a fan of Buffy (actually, I think it was later, around 2004 or thereabouts). I caught it all in reruns but enjoyed the "darkness" of it that it had over Buffy in some ways. And Wesley was the main draw for me in this show. He was just a great looking guy and I liked how his character became darker around season 3/4 due to the events that happened to him. His relationship with Lilah really intrigued me and made me into a shipper of this pairing (or at least a fan of it). Like Buffy, my interest in the show comes and goes but I do like it and enjoy it.

  • Ocean Girl

This was one of those shows that really hooked me when I was younger. I don't remember much about my impressions of it when it was on but, to this day, I still regard it as probably one of my first (if not the first) time I had been interested in a show to the extent that I wanted to watch and type each episode as it came on.

It aired on the Disney Channel of which I watched a lot of in those days (and still do, I'll admit) and I found it fascinating.

  • Growing Pains

Another show I watched when I was younger and really grew fond of. It was the first show that I went on the Internet searching for information for. An '80's- early '90's show, it was great, and also aired on the Disney Channel at the time. Ah, the memories of those days watching it during dinner...

I enjoy many movies but I have found that most of the movies that I like watching (or will go to the theaters to see) are those that have some type of ancient or historical setting. I love movies about Rome or Greece or the Middle Ages. I love fantasy as well, but it depends on the kind. I love Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Gladiator, Troy and many others. If it has an ancient or fantasy setting, it will usually draw me in enough to want to check it out.

I don't go to the movies often for the main reason that there don't seem to be a lot that is ineresting to me. It's the same with TV. There's just not much out there that I feel like investing my time or my money in.

As you will learn in the Through the Lens section of this site, I have become very interested in photography since the beginning of 2008. I love taking pictures of lots of different things. I take my camera with me whenever I am going somewhere in particular. I just like photography, remembering what I have done and where I have been. It's a lot of fun. Perhaps a bit obsessive, but it's a very enjoyable hobby for me right now. I'm loving it.

  • Book - Whisper the Winged Unicorn

When I was little (I think like 5) there was one series of books that I absolutely adored: Whisper the Winged Unicorn. It was a book series from the early 1980's that I fell in love with. When I grew older, I somehow ended up getting rid of my books and I was so sad about this that I went searching the internet, Amazon and ebay, for these old books so that I could once again reclaim a little bit of my childhood. I have been able to find nearly all of them in the last two years of searching and my collection is special to me. They are sweet stories about a winged unicorn who learns about life and love and happiness.

  • My Little Pony

Oh my gosh. One of the things that I was obsessed with (at least as far as I could remember) when I was little were My Little Ponies. I have such memories of playing with them in the snow, taking them into the bathtub with me, and hanging them on the close line by their tails so that they would dry. I loved my ponies. I've been told that I had nearly 100 of them when I was 5-6 (I believe). All different kinds, I collected them and loved them all, mostly the winged ones and the unicorns.

As the years went by, I started selling them. Now I only own a handful of the ponies that I once had. They are still special to me and I currently have a box under my bed where they stay. A couple years back, I did become interested in My Little Ponies again and started collecting the Windy Wing and Summer Wing ponies, specifically. They were my absolute favorites. All made between 1984 and 1987 (I believe), these little ponies are small and all have beautiful butterfly wings. I just love them so much. It took me several months to find them all on ebay and collect all 12 of them but I finally did. Now I have them displayed on my computer desk.

  • Butterflies and Moths

I have always been a huge animal lover and, specifically, I have always been into insects from a very young age. I remember looking at a photograph of myself when I was like 5 years old, holding a butterfly that I had caught. I loved catching them and I learned how to mount them as well (yes, I killed them and then stuck pins in them--thinking back on it now, I don't know if I could do that anymore--killing the pour things--but I will never get rid of the ones that I have caught and mounted since then).

I have a rather large collection of butterflies and moths that I collected within a 5 or 6 year expanse of time (I stopped catching and collecting when I reached High School, I believe). I have over 30 species of butterflies and moths and I have them displayed on my wall in a nice glass shadowbox.

A couple years back I also bought three exotic butterflies and moths from a guy who lives in the area who catches and mounts insects from the rainforest and other exotic locations. I have them hanging on my wall as well.

Butterflies have always been a part of me. I've always loved them and I always will.

  • Feathers

This was a collection that I did a lot when I was younger. I loved birds and so every time I went to the park or the zoo, I tried to collect feathers that I found on the ground, whether they were exotic or your common Canadian Goose. I have a huge collection and, right now, I'm really not sure what to do with them. I'd like to display them somehow but I haven't figured out how yet.

  • Shells

I have a large shell collection. I loved collecting anything animal related (as you can tell from getting feathers) and so I used to do this a lot when I was younger, when my family would go to California for summer trips. I haven't done much sea traveling in a long time and so I really don't have any new shells to collect, but I love the ones that I do have.

Computer Games

  • King's Quest

This is quite possibly my favorite computer game of all time. I have only ever played Kings Quest 6-8 but I love these games. King's Quest 8 is probably my favorite of the bunch. I just love the action of it, the graphics (from 1998) and the storyline. Plus, it's fun killing monsters and saving the world!

  • Ecco the Dolphin

This was the first computer game I ever played on a Microsoft PC (before that, I was playing games on my dads old Commodore computer). This game is such a wonderful game. I have memories sitting at the dinning room table and playing it before we got the computer hooked up downstairs. It tells the story of a dolphin who loses his pod and must go in search of him eventually finding out that his pod had been taken by aliens for a food source. It really is a great game. The graphics quality are what you would expect of a game from 1994 but it still holds a special place in my heart. I have been able to download all the music from it and listening to it brings back so many fond memories of playing this game.

  • Myst

Another really thrilling game and unlike any other game I have ever played. The storyline is really interesting--magic books that can transport you into the worlds that they creae. I own one of the books based on this game series and I own the soundtracks as well.

I think I've always really enjoyed traveling. I've been to Europe a couple times now and I hope to go more in the future. I also hope to check out some of the states as I really have not been out of my state much in my life (a couple times to California when I was younger but that was about it). I like going to different countries, particularly countries rooted in ancient history (so I LOVED Rome, of course!). I hope to go to Greece and New Zealand/Austrialia one day as well but haven't gotten there yet.

I recently went to Austria, Germany and Prauge this past December (2007) so I plan on putting together my report of that trip and my photos and sharing them. That section of this site is still a work in progress at the moment.

There's a lot of variaty when it comes to music for me. I can listen to just about anything and my collection includes all sorts of different types of music: pop, heavy metal (it depends on the band, though), operetic gothic (okay, so I don't know the real term for it), classical, country/pop etc. What I won't listen to, however, is rap or real straight country. Other than that, a lot of things appeal to me. I love Evanescence, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Vertical Horizen, Nickleback, Daughtry, Josh Groban, Creed, The Calling, Enigma, Celine Dion, and many others. I have found that as I get older, I'm more interested in the harder music, with the darker sounds and more....opretic voices, with electric guitars and so on. I think that's why bands like Evanescence, Within Tempation and Lacuna Coil are the types I'm most fond of right now.
